Massachusetts State Science Fair, Inc.

Worcester Republican City Committee Chair, Jerry Horton, is on the board of directors of Massachusetts State Science Fair. This organization is dedicated to promoting, encouraging and fostering scientific inquiry and discovery through individual science projects by high school and middle school students in order to prepare them for success in a technological society. For over 50 years MSSF and its partners have organized and run science fairs throughout the Commonwealth. Each year thousands of students participate in school, regional, and state-wide fairs to display their projects in science, mathematics, and engineering.

The aim of MSSF is to ensure that every student in the Commonwealth has an opportunity to conduct independent scientific research and to receive recognition for that work. MSSF offers training to teachers and school administrators on the research process, advising and coaching students in that process, finding mentors, judges, and sponsors, and running a school science fair. MSSF also gives monetary and staff assistance to schools that are starting up their own school fairs.

MSSF is blessed with a vast cadre of volunteers who contribute many hours of their time year-round. MSSF and its regional partners are supported entirely by private contributions from corporations, educational institutions, and individuals.

Right now MSSF is striving mightily to expand participation in our regional and state science fairs at both the middle school and high school levels. It seeks people from industry, government, and academia willing to serve as mentors to students and as judges at fairs. MSSF also seeks financial support to fuel this expansion, and to continue to encourage and support our young people in science, math, and engineering.
